Hi & welcome to Beckie Melvin Weddings & Events! Whether it's your first time visiting the website, or the 25th time we've met, a warm welcome is always guaranteed.
I spend a lot of my time talking about other people, venues, suppliers & all things weddings - which I LOVE - however I don't know how many of you actually know much about me, the face behind the business name. So I thought I'd try & write a little introduction into me, what makes me tick, & what I do when I'm not onsite running weddings or exhibitions.
In my spare time... I read, a LOT. I love most books bust especially horror - Stephen King, James Herbert, bit of Martina Coles for thrills. However I can't watch anything like that on film - how weird is that?!
I collect... Irregular Choice shoes, swing dresses, & tattoos. I have about 25 pairs of shoes, 20 dresses, & 5 large tattoos. I like to make an impression & definitely feel most comfortable when I'm in a lovely dress (preferably with a fluffy petticoat too!) with my colourful shoes on. Certainly a talking point. I LOVE the pin up style, currently planning a pin up inspired tattoo arm sleeve so soon I'll be extra colourful.
My family life... I'm married to Paul, we've been together since 1999 & been married since 2006. People are often surprised when they hear the length of time we've been together, as neither of us looks our age - hooray for good genes! We have a gorgeous son - Cameron, born on Christmas Day 2009 - & 2 English bulldogs. I'd describe our house as a madhouse! Always noisy, but full of fun.
My biggest achievement... winning an award last year for my wedding & event planning skills. I take what I do very seriously, & pour my heart & soul into my business, so to get recognition for that was an amazing feeling.
How would your friends describe you... I actually asked people this as I didn't quite know where to start! Caring, quirky, loyal & funny came up a lot - I have to say I agree, I'm one of the funniest people you'll ever meet ;)
What's next...? As well as working on my own business, I am also the Wedding & Event Co-Ordinator at Flaxbourne Gardens near Milton Keynes. I ADORE my job there, it's hard not to fall in love with the place when you visit! This year I've struggled rather a lot with balancing my own business with the new business, AND the fact I'm chronically ill too. So next year? Bigger events with Beckie Melvin Events, but with fewer venues, & only in PEAK wedding show season. Then for the middle part, wedding season, April to October will JUST be weddings at Flaxbourne. I'm looking forward to having a better balance I must say!
Well I hope this gives you a but of an insight into the person you meet. I'd love to hear from you & hope to meet you at an event soon. Beckie xx
Choosing your wedding venue is probably the most important part of the wedding planning process, but it doesn't just stop at how the venue looks. Once you've met the manager & had a look around, you'll be wanting to sit down & discuss the details of your wedding day & how the venue will create your magical day. But what should you ask?
Below are just a few questions that we get asked over & over at Flaxbourne Gardens, so I thought I'd share them with you & hopefully you'll find them useful for your own venue meeting. If you can think of anything that I have missed, please do let me know! Bxx
So, you've spotted a wedding show in the area, you've marked the date in your diary, you've convinced your other half &/or family & friends to come with you... but how do you get the most out of the wedding shows you visit? It can be a little overwhelming when you first visit one, so here's a few things I thought would help you. Of course if you think of anything else or want some more info, then please do pop me an email.
If you run a business based in the wedding industry, then chances are you've considered exhibiting at local wedding shows to reach more couples & tell them about your services.
It can seem a big step from just "shouting" with other wedding companies within the free confines of various wedding groups, but shows can be a very good way to push your business to the next level.
So how DO you go about deciding who to give your hard earned money to, & then getting the most out of the experience? I hope the following pointers are useful to you. Once you've had a read, I'd love to hear from you & hopefully meet you at an upcoming wedding show.
