Here at Beckie Melvin Events, we tend to get asked the same questions time & again! No such thing as a silly question, you need to get all your information together & make sure you're comfortable before parting with your hard earned money. Here are a few examples of questions we get asked, & our own answers - obviously asking a different organiser will give you different answers. Bxx
What are your costs?
They vary from show to show, but ballpark figure - start at £85 for a small stand (where available) and up to £200 for a double stand. All prices are listed on our website on the "Suppliers pay here" page
Have you used this venue before?
Most of our venues are regulars, but we do have a few newbies in there too - they are venues who've heard our great reputation & seen the work we do, & want us to help them reach local couples too.
How many suppliers do you have coming? And how many from the same industry?
Again this varies from show to show, but our smallest is 15 stands, & largest is 40. For shows with 20 or less, it's 2 representatives per industry, and for over 20 it's 3. There are a few exceptions to this, & this is stated when you enquire. For example, we only ever have 1 photobooth (although will book a magic mirror too if space allows at larger shows), 1 magician, 1 toastmaster...
Where do you market your events?
Where DON'T we?! We use a mix of online forums & media, wedding websites, wedding magazines, paid social media adverts, banners & flyers at the venue for 6 weeks prior... A full list can be seen on this page here: Click here
How long have you been in the events business?
I've been running wedding shows for around 5 years & have run around 45 at time of writing.
I've been self employed in the events business for 7 years, & have been organising events for a living (for companies such as Tesco HQ & the NHS) since I started work at 18, so nearly 20 years.
Are you REALLY this friendly & helpful??
Yes! Honestly, this is me. I love working with wedding specialists & to see their businesses grow & develop. It gives me such joy to see someone who's new on the scene meeting couples, get bookings, gain confidence & go from strength to strength. Since I started in the business, I've met so many wedding suppliers that have gone from being work colleagues to friends, I feel so lucky to work with such talented individuals :)
Saturday 2 September was a beautifully hot day, clear skies, & the setting for our latest show was the stunning Elstow Abbey church in Bedford. Steeped in history, it was a wonderful way to showcase both the church, the attached marquee, and 15 local wedding specialists from a range of industries.
The day started with myself giving an on the spot bit of marketing on BBC 3 Counties radio show (seems I was meant to be giving a clue to their treasure hunt, but I didn't know that lol, instead waxing lyrical about the wedding show!)
We saw a steady flow of visitors through the door, with the church & all the suppliers getting a lot of interest from loved up couples, & I am really proud of the event. Already looking at new dates for 2018! Thanks to everyone who visited, who exhibited, & especially to Father Paul Messam of the church, and Dave Pryde for his advice & loan of marquee.
