So, you've spotted a wedding show in the area, you've marked the date in your diary, you've convinced your other half &/or family & friends to come with you... but how do you get the most out of the wedding shows you visit? It can be a little overwhelming when you first visit one, so here's a few things I thought would help you. We're entering our 3rd year of wedding shows at The Grand Hall in central Bedford, & the love affair is still strong! Every time we walk into the room, we can't hep but gasp & the reactions on the faces of engaged couples echos this. Why not have a read, in their own words, of just what makes them the ideal choice for a wedding venue in Bedford?
The beautiful Grand Hall, Bromham Road, is located in the heart of Bedford town centre and is a fully licensed premises for weddings and civil partnership ceremonies for up to 160 guests.
The magnificent hall dates back to 1882 and is steeped in history. It was originally built for the Harpur Trust and from the beginning has been considered to be a notable landmark in the town, featuring in guidebooks and on postcards.
Benefitting from distinctive Victorian décor, The Grand Hall has lofty, ornate ceilings and impressive doors that provide a lavish and unique backdrop for the perfect wedding ceremony.
In addition, the Hall boasts an exquisite original John Broadwood and Sons piano that originates from the 19th century and has a stunning showpiece organ located on the overhead balcony.
Available to hire at weekends and during the school holidays, The Grand Hall is also an ideal venue for wedding receptions and special functions.
Your Wedding, Your Way
The Grand Hall welcomes outside caterers and mobile catering units, meaning that you can tailor make your special day and have everything you have ever wished for. Full use can be made of our onsite kitchens if required.
For those planning a small, intimate celebration for less than 20 people, the beautiful Boardroom is licensed for weddings and civil partnership ceremonies as well.

I heard a dreadful thing earlier. Someone said the phrase “same old boring wedding shows” 😳😳I know right?? As you well know, NOT ALL SHOWS ARE CREATED EQUAL!
Beckie Melvin Events are something different. Why?
Well... we are relaxed. There’s no hard sell, just a good chat with friends you haven’t met yet.
The laughter!! Always laughter at the wedding shows.
There’s only a small number of industry representatives per show - why fill a room with 5+ photographers / florists etc? It benefits no one.
So that’s 2 plus points. It’s a friendly face at the door - in fact the same name as is on the business, & who you’ll have spoken to on email / Facebook. Me! I’m so proud of my shows & I love the people I’m able to bring to you. SUCH talent.
What else? We’re free entry, always. With free goody bags, always.
Plus we’re family friendly, with no over crowded rooms just plenty of room to breathe & dream.
The venues!! I only work with ones that fit with our ethos - unique, comfortable yet exciting, friendly staff...

Well hello there, congratulations on your engagement! You have the bling on your finger, so it's time to get planning & first on your list is finding the perfect venue to be the backdrop to your big day. However with dozens of venues per county, HUNDREDS across the UK (plus destination wedding venues) it can be a daunting task selecting even just a long list of potentials, let alone a short list! So I thought I'd give you some helpful hints to get you started.
Decide on the type of wedding you'd like as this will start the ball rolling on what type of venue to go & see. For example, if you're looking for a relaxed rustic day, then a large contemporary hotel won't suit you.
Make a realistic budget. This will involve both of you sitting down & being honest on what you can afford. There is no reason to get into mountains of debt just for 1 day, so be careful & realistic in your planning.
Decide roughly how many guests you would like to invite. This will determine a venue's suitability. If you're looking to share your big day with every one of your nearest & dearest, work mates, family from all over the globe... then a venue with capacity of just 50 probably won't be your best match. Unless you're looking for an excuse to pare down the guest list that is!
Once you have these 3 key points in place, then you can start searching. Google local wedding venues, arrange meetings or go to their open days, check out their website & online presence (social media etc) for pictures of real weddings...

It's been a few weeks since I did an update on availability, so actually it's been a few MONTHS! I'm very out of practice but hope this year is the year I get better at blogging.
Our first event of 2017 was The Grand Hall in Bedford on Sunday 8 January, we had a fantastic turnout, so I fully expect the rest of 2017 to follow suit! (In fact the picture below is from Sunday's show, taken around 10 minutes after we opened)

Beckie Melvin Events have a simple philosophy. We take the counties best independent venues, fill them with the top independent wedding specialists & suppliers, & bring them to the attention of discerning couples. We don’t run large events, instead preferring a more intimate approach.
This way, the couples can create a rapport with each supplier, including the venue, ensuring it’s a match made in heaven. We get to know each exhibitor personally, & see a high rebooking rate. Many have gone on to become friends outside of work as well, which is an added bonus!
The venues that we work with systematically rebook us time & again, agreeing that our approach of high levels of marketing, a personal relationship with each supplier, mixed with our levels of expertise in the industry all lead to successful fayres time and again.
Feedback from our events has been fantastic, & we’re thankful each & every time it’s received. However we never get complacent – each event has us wanting to reach more people, see more specialists boost their business, & get more bookings for the venues we’re working with.

Beckie Melvin Events is a VERY small operation, but with a HUGE amount of heart & passion. Owned & run by myself, Beckie Melvin, based in Bedfordshire. I’ve qualifications in Events & Hospitality, Marketing & Wedding Planning but I’m constantly wanting to learn more, in an effort to further improve the events experience for those I work with. I have a great network of close friends & family, all of whom I can’t thank enough for their continued support as I build my business. I’m blessed to be able to work with them, as well as making new friends from the shows I run.
I also support a national wedding charity through my work, I am the Bedfordshire ambassador for Gift of a Wedding. This wonderful charity provides dream weddings to couples facing terminal illness, often with just a few weeks notice. They make a HUGE difference to people’s lives but rely on donations from the public, from physical items such as dresses, rings & flowers, to services such as music, beauty & décor. I am able to offer my event planning services should they be required, & I also tell the couples I meet about the charity’s work, to help further their success. I think it’s safe to say that I live & breathe weddings!
